Most of the 2020 car shows are cancelled, so what can I do instead?
By Zunsport - 3rd May, 2024
Are you a car nut? From the London Motor Show to Goodwood Festival of Speed and Autosport International - the British calendar is usually packed with motoring spectaculars, from indoors exhibitions to outdoor extravaganzas. But in 2020, it seems like the calendar has been almost wiped clean owing to the COVID outbreak.
So for the benefit of these dedicated car fanatics, we've come up with a few ideas to help pass the time.
Hit The Road
Now restrictions are beginning to ease following the lockdown, Britain's drivers are able to set their sights on road trips which are further than the local supermarket and back. After being cooped up for so long in lockdown, is there anything better than hitting the open road and discovering some new territory, or revisiting a favourite part of the country? With so many outstanding areas of natural beauty in the UK, road trips look set to be a winner this year.
Watch Formula One (eventually)
The pinnacle of motorsport; the Formula One season has certainly taken a hit as the knock-on effects of the COVID virus has swept through the sporting calendar. However, reports suggest that talks are well underway to salvage the season. There are set to be as many as three doubleheaders - which could take place in the UK, Austria, and China - which will mean armchair fans can enjoy a special treat to make up for what they've been missing.
Join A Car Club
From Range Rovers to classic cars and souped-up gas guzzlers - if you reserve a special place in your life for your car, why not share your passion with others by joining a car club? These organisations hold regular meetups where you can chew the fat on the cars you love while keeping to social distancing measures, of course.
Turn On Some Top Gear Nostalgia
Who doesn't love a bit of Top Gear? The quintessential British car programme has amassed an amazing number of series since 2002, as well as their much loved 'specials', but the appeal remains. It's the perfect mix of the latest car gossip, slightly awkward banter and celebrity appearances. You could use your free time to revisit some Classic Clarkson and Magnificent May!
